Farm Subsidies

Under a farm subsidy program approved by Congress, since the year 2000 $1.3 billion dollars of our tax money has been given to individuals who do no farming at all. This is from an analysis performed by the Washington Post:

Overall, $172 billion dollars of our tax money have been given out as farm subsidies in the last decade. In 2005 alone, the federal government handed out more than $25 billion in aid, despite the fact that pretax farm profits were a near record $72 billion. THIS IS ALMOST 50% MORE THAN THE TOTAL AMOUNT PAID TO FAMILIES RECEIVING WELFARE!

It is time to end this program.

How can anyone read this and not be outraged? How can Congress allow this to happen? How can any person in Congress who calls themself an American read this and not do something about it? It’s time to elect someone who is RESPONSIBLE and cares about doing what is right! Incumbents in Congress are afraid to take a stance on real issues, because they think it will cost them votes or campaign contributions. Well, it’s time to kick out the irresponsible people who are supposed to be representing us, but who are instead wasting our money and hurting our economy while running up huge deficits.

Vote for John Mertens for U.S. Senate. Elect someone who will shine light on issues such as these, and embarrass the rest of Congress into doing something about them.
